Hello Welcome to the Kendal Nursery school Governing body pages.
I am proud to be the Chair of Governors at Kendal Nursery school. I have had a long association with Brantfield, initially as a class teacher and then as headteacher and now as Chair of Governors.
During retirement I wanted to continue my links with the nursery and so, after a few years break, joined the Governing Body to support the staff and school as they continue to provide amazing learning experiences for the children and families of the Kendal area.

Governing Body Report to Parents
We have had another very exciting and successful year at Kendal Nursery which was confirmed by our continued ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted Inspection result in January 2025. The team of inspectors were very impressed with all they saw during their two day visit, acknowledging the skills of staff members and enjoying their time and conversations with the children. Thank you very much to all the families who supported us through the inspection and throughout the year at various events. The stars of the year however must be the children who have been amazing ambassadors for Brantfield both with the inspectors, within the building and on their many visits into the community. Of course the children’s confidence and achievements have been due to the dedication and hard work of the staff team and their knowledge of the each child and skill at supporting their development and learning.
The Governing Body meets twice a term with the first meeting focussing on the business of the school while the second meeting provides all the governors with an opportunity to monitor the quality of the school. In line with the Governing Body core responsibilities during the first meeting we consider the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school ensuring that developments always focus on providing children with the best possible opportunities to continue their learning journey. Discussions relate to policies, community involvement and the work of the nursery and is supported by the Head teachers report which includes information about children’s progress and achievement. Finance is also part of these discussions ensuring that the school budget is well spent to the benefit of the children and their learning. The second termly meeting enables governors to monitor the work of the school by, among other things, visiting classrooms and the garden and discussing how Tapestry is enabling staff to celebrate the children’s learning and development with parents. Governors have also joined various special events and observed the close relationships between staff, children and families.
This has been another innovative year for Kendal Nursery School, with many new and exciting improvements. The Governors have been very pleased to see the positive impact of appointing a Deputy Head, who has provided valuable support to the staff, the Headteacher, and the children’s learning. Our Preschool children have been wonderful ambassadors for the school and have enjoyed plenty of opportunities to engage with the local community. These have included visits to a local care home, a bus trip, and even an adventure on a train. The Outdoor Classroom continues to be very popular and has now been extended to five days a week. We have also established dedicated access to the fields and Serpentine Woods, where many exciting adventures take place. In addition, IT facilities for staff have been improved, enabling them to access Tapestry more efficiently.
This year the focus of the Governing Body will be on strengthening the roles and responsibilities of members of the governing body and ensuring we are well equipped to support the work of the school.
The staff have worked tirelessly throughout the year. The Governors would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
