The Progress Check at Age Two
At Kendal Nursery School we want to work closely with you to support your child’s development at every stage. One part of this is the Progress Check at Age Two, which is a short written summary of your child’s learning and development carried out when they are between 24 and 36 months old.
Why is this important?
The check provides an opportunity to:
-
Celebrate your child’s achievements and milestones.
-
Identify areas where they may benefit from extra support.
-
Strengthen the partnership between home and Nursery, so we can support your child together.
It focuses on the three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Communication and Language
-
Physical Development
What the Check Involves
Your child’s Key Worker will:
-
Review your child’s development, highlighting their strengths and identifying any areas where extra support may be helpful.
-
Share the summary with you, ensuring we understand your child’s interests, needs, and routines at home.
-
Suggest ways you can support your child’s development at home.
-
Agree with you how we can work together to support your child, including how we can link with health professionals if needed.

Working Together with Health Visitors
The Progress Check at Age Two is different from the NHS health visitor check (sometimes called a “development review”). Both are important, and they complement each other. Where appropriate, health visitors may contact us to discuss your child’s development, so that together we can ensure every child gets the right support at this crucial stage.
